And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. [ Genesis 21:6 KJV ]
We set out in life with so much enthusiasm, faith, hope and joy. When we pray to God and our prayers are answered, with plans falling in place, we become so excited and laugh. That is how it ought to be.
However, sometimes for some reasons, the laughter is truncated and that leaves us in a state of despondency .
Sarah married the man she loved, felt so fulfilled and was filled with laughter. Soon, the laughter was cut short.
Sarah, just like every young lady who gets married was expecting to bear children for her husband, but that became very difficult.
It was particularly troubling because in those days, women who had difficulty in child bearing were looked down upon. I can imagine Sarah’s mood and state. She might have been in a state of despondency and probably said to herself – it’s all over for me. No wonder she ”laughed” when she heard the angel of the Lord tell Abraham that she (Sarah) would have a son.
But true to God’s word, Sarah laughed again after living in a state of despondency as evidenced in Genesis 21:6.
The man Job had his joy and laughter truncated, when in a day he lost everything he had. He moved from a state of laughter to a state of despondency when ”calamity befell him”, but God caused him to laugh again.
In Job 42:10, Job’s fortune was not only restored by God, but gave him twice as much as he had before. Job laughed again.
Whatever it is that has changed you from that once cheerful person to one in a state of despondency, will soon be over and you will laugh again.
In all the situations above, God caused the people to laugh again. He is the same God yesterday, today and tomorrow. Don’t lose hope, hold on to God and His word for He has said “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, He it is that doth go with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. ( Deuteronomy 31:6
Dear Father, thank you for the comfort of the Scriptures. Your Word indeed is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. I am so grateful to learn from you today that no matter what happens, I am a victor in Christ Jesus. I maintain that right attitude of faith and victory today, and always, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
